Windshield scratches

How is Delta kits handling this scratches? Refering mostly to surface damage.

I have tried a few systems and just not for me ! Not a very good market unless you can get into the construction end where high price windows get scratched in the installation. Way to much labor for the return on removing scratch on w/s.

I do scratches for a couple of shops that rebuild classic cars. When glass is not available or when what is available is no better than what they already have. They remove the glass so I able to take to my shop (at home) . It is a lot of work as previously mentioned but sometimes you have to take pride over profit .

I still use cerium oxide and a dense polishing wheel. With the right technique and a bit of practice it is not difficult to remove light scratches from a windshield. This is the same method used but many glass shops. It is also the same method used by many glass distributors who often buff out light scratches before delivering "new" glass to a glass shop. Since we only work on light scratches and don't do all that many of them we use a small wheel mounted on a Makita polisher but a 1/2" electric drill can also be used. The cost for the wheel and 1lb of polishing compound is about $50 and will last for a very long time. Both are available on our website. If you do a lot of scratch polishing there is a heavy duty tool with a larger version of the wheel available (not through Delta Kits) but the cost goes up to around $700.

I've tried a number of other methods and watched live demonstrations of dozens of different products. For light scratches in windshields I have not found a solution that works any better and nothing even close to the price of what I mentioned above. However if you are removing lots of scratches or very deep scratches from commercial glass you may want to consider a method that involves multiple steps, similar to the headlight restoration process, but for automobiles you have to weigh what you charge for the service against the cost of a new windshield. In my area it's hard to get people to fork out more than $50 to polish out a scratch. I won't post any info about the more expensive systems I recommend for commercial applications but if you want to give me a call I would be happy to give you my recommendations and reasons why I recommend them. It all just depends on what you want to be able to accomplish and how much you are willing to pay.
