I use the 3M 1 1/2 blue painters tape. I double up on it while masking set of lenes. Its priced almost every where at about $33 for a 6 pack. Very expensive. Anything else someone has been successful using??

Re: What tape do you use to mask?
I use the same brand. I've tried other brands and had poor results. Problems: Too much adhesive pulls paint off bumper or molded plastic fender. Tearing quickly if you should hit it with the orbital. Not holding and releasing prior to finshing the job. I always double tape along the bottom of the light or tight areas. Old saying. Penny saved or pound for cure.

Re: What tape do you use to mask?
I think you are doing a bit of overkill with 2x layers of tape. Unless you have a really difficult corner, etc (just double up on that one spot).... you should be fine with 1 layer, like 95% of the time. That will cut your tape expense by half.
Anyway, tape is stupid expensive. I like the Scotch/3M for sure. I've also used a slightly cheaper brand from walmart/menards, etc. (duck?) I use 1" blue tape so it's more like $3/roll. If I need more coverage for some reason, I can lay down an extra strip. But I'm not wasting $ by using $5-6 tape where it's not necessary.

I use to pay about 3.99 for 1 1/2 inch. Now its about $6. I will catch a sale and get about 5 rolls of 2 inch for about $29.99.

Re: What tape do you use to mask?
if you double up just use the blue on the bottom layer and use cheap masking tape for the second layer, its allot cheaper that way and the blue last allot longer... just my 2cents worth

Ill give that a shot. I like to double up becuase its still a LOT cheaper than fixing a bumper or getting a customer angry.

I've "caught" a few awkward bars before.
If it's a car yard - I polish them with the GT compound, that normally polishes them out.
If not and there's a slight sign of the scuff still...when you apply the Infinity - accurately, wipe some over the scuff - it will vanish
Skeptics welcome
Cheers,
Pommy
