Speed of the sander??
Hey everyone,
What speed is everyone basically using on the sander?? I've been using 4 myself. Also have you noticed a decreased in the time it takes you to do a set of lights the higher your sander is set and do you use the same speed doing the polishing step??

Re: Speed of the sander??
Hi,
When I did use the sander - 4-5 was ideal.
If you do go any faster, watch out for heat damage - be careful as some of them melt.
Polishing would be faster, probably 6 - but I personally found the polishing discs useless.
Cheers,
Pommy

Re: Speed of the sander??
Hi,
I use a handheld mini lithium-ion sander polisher, for a few reasons really...
One tool for sanding and polishing (the orbital doesn't like heavy pressure, which my polish needs)
Free of cords and completely mobile system (I use a 12v hair dryer to flash off the UV coating)
Much faster set up time
I got your PM - but thought I should answer in here too for others - and so I don't look ignorant!
Cheers,
Pommy

Re: Speed of the sander??
Sure.
Once the coating is applied, you need it to be touch dry ASAP to stop airborne contaminants sticking to it.
The hair dryer simply dries it quicker, so I can leave quicker!
"flashing off" is a term used in spray painting normally, where the paint has to dry or settle a little in between coats.
I use infinity, not the C2P - but I don't suppose it matters as the quicker it dries, the better.

How many batteries do you use and how long does one battery last before changing out?
I am carring 2 - 3 18V batteries for my Dewalt....and normaly one per set unless heavy grinding time is needed then change out half way through...

Re: Speed of the sander??
Hi Don,
Well I only bought it a week or so ago - I'm always trying to find better ways to get in and out of a car yard faster, while giving a great service too!
It really depends on whether I use it to polish - it doesn't like polishing with PRESSURE very much, which my 3000 grit compound needs.
Without using the compound, it will happily sand 2-3 sets of lights on 2 x batteries. They are only 30 min charge and you can get a car charger for it too.
With the compound, 1 set - but my compound needs heaps of pressure, I mean leaning against pressure, which the polisher is not designed for.
I'm talking to brent at the moment - it appears my process is going to change again very soon - so no doubt I will get better usage from the tool without using the compound anymore
Cheers,
Pommy

Re: Speed of the sander??
ok so it is ok to use a hair dryer on the headlights rather than a UV light to dry?
