Fax Machine

I'm in the market for a new fax! Does anyone have any suggestions. I was interested in the 3 in 1 deals for the computer (print, fax, copy). Do any of you have experiences with these, or should I stick with the traditional phone line fax.

I like the all in one printer/fax/scanner. I use a lexmark x63 and it has been a good machine. I have also used hp all in ones before.

Now here is a topic I am an expert at, been a copier, printer, fax tech for 24 years. My first choice would be a Brother laser all in one, this is what I have at home. Second a HP laser all in one, stick with a laser machine and your operating costs will be low. On the other hand Inkjet and plain paper film type machines will kill you in consumables. You pay more for a laser up front but from my Brother MFC-8500 I get 6000 prints from the toner cartrige (53.00$) and 20,000 from the drum unit. The average inkjet cartrige will give you around 300 prints at a cost of 30.00$ per cartrige.

I have a compaq A1500 fax,copy,scan, printer. Radio shack had it on sale 2 years ago for $199.00 if I remember right. That does pretty good, but now I need to give a good cleaning and once over. I am having smear lines on my referrals and I can not read the dispatch numbers.. I can not find anyone in this town to clean it down.
It is like it is disposable like anything else..... I found one place and they THINK they may be able to work on it for $75.00 minumum.

I do not know and feel I do not want to know anything about cleaning it myself... I took a Q' tip and alcohol to clean it once and it took for ever to get it to print right.

I use roadrunner for my internet connection, is it possible to use this with faxing etc. or would I be better off with land phone line?

You can sign up with E-Fax http://www.efax.xom.

For free, they'll assign you a fax number (that will probably not be in your area code). You then download their software/efax reader. Then, you receive and reply to your faxes via email.

For a fee, you can select an area code or toll-free number.

I don't use them, but I have a client that uses them and they have no complaints.

Anybody who pays $30.00 per cartridge is a fool. These printer companies make their money mostly from the cartridges not the printer. Anyways, I have a Epson inkjet printer and I do not pay over $1.00-$4.00 for my cartridges. I know where to get the best deal on them. Check it out if you want heres the link:

I too was in that business for many years, and I have to agree with CPR about the HP laser if your flush with money. Myself, I prefer HP all the way. I use Hp OfficeJet 6110 (fax, printer, Flatbed copier & scanner) under $300. I set my settings on Fast Draft Black Ink Only, which enables you to get many more pages out of a cartridge. If you don't need color (which I do) and have the bones I would go with the laser.
