Magnibond Exploded!

Post by GLASSTIME »

Don't think I'm exagerating on this one! I was doing a repair and was just caught up in the "Hustle" of things. Placed my Mangnibond in the top of my tool box and forgot to close the lid. I went to do the 2nd repair (same shield) and placed it this time in my "Apron" pocket, which is normally where it goes when using it.

I started to feel a burning sensation on my tummy and felt my apron and it was soaked! Opened the pocket and the "Dropper" was crystalized from the UV Rays, thus allowing the resin to seep out all over my clothes. Needless to say, i reeked of "Resin" for 6 more hours!

I tossed the now empty bottle of magnibond (which was full) to begin with and later took a look at it and the entire inside of the bottle was now crystalized. This was maybe a couple of days from the accident. And there was no lid on it!

So.......For those that don't believe UV Rays is some pretty strong stuff......Think! Again!

Lesson Learned! :o

Chad,

Years ago I had my "junk" severely burned while storing my resins in a center pouch in an apron that leaked out. Needless to say my wife wasn't all that happy for the next 6 weeks. I also had an incident where I experienced a suction cup failure under pressure and my face was sprayed, including my eyes with acid resin. Didn't have a wash out kit with me, only Gatorade which helped...but now I always have one.

After those 2 situations, I have never put a resin in my pocket or apron and always have used eye protection. It may never happen to others but my advice is to be prepared. Glad your OK.

I once knocked over a bottle of resin. We learn from our mistakes.
I keep mine in my toolbox which sits on the tailgate of my truck.
I just fill the eye dropper and carry it over to the vehicle. then I put the dropper back into the resin jar and cover it with a small tin can.
Resin costs too much to be carrying it around in my pocket.
The burning feeling on your body doesnt feel good at all.
