Help!! Windshield application trouble Help!!

Post by A-1Towing »

I have a 1989 International 1600 series truck (actually a 1654) that came from U-haul. I had a well known company come out to put in a new windshield, it wouldn't go in by just a 1/8" or so, the installer fought with it for about 30 minutes and said it was cut wrong. He brought another one out that was a different brand with the same outcome. I have another U-haul the same make model and year that he barrowed a windshield out of to get me back going. (It's a rollback and I had to have it) He said that the windshield would have to be custom cut for the truck. It just don't make sense that these trucks would be 1/8" to a 1/4" different than any other truck with the same model number. The truck has never been wrecked and the windshield out of the other U-haul went right in. Anyone ever heard of this problem????

I used to be a dealer for U-Haul and ran across that problem more than once. It should be an International problem rather than a U-Haul problem but it seems like it was always in a U-Haul that I came across it. I think I was able to find a part number that worked (listed as a different year) but it's been so long I can't remember for sure. I owned a glass shop at the time so the first time it happened I made a pattern off the old glass and cut the new windshield off the pattern. Not a big deal if you have the glass on hand but a real pain if your mobile and thought you had the right windshield.

If you can get hold of an old NAGS book and look over the block sizes for about a 10 year range around 1989 you might find the right one.
