UV Curing...

Post by Ricersux »

So I saw an ad for a new hlr kit being sold with an optional UV curing light and it made me wonder if anyone here has tried using the UV curing light from a wsr kit on headlights?

I tried the spray on UV cured material on my truck. I did not opt for the light due to the price and I was just doing a test. I left my truck in the hot summer sun to cure, which I would not recommend for a customer's car due to the drying time. It worked like a champ and it still looks great after about 10 months. So......time will tell.

The down side is you need to tape up and cover the fenders for the spraying operations.

I already own and like my Delta Kits HLR system...I wouldn't use a kit that I had to spray a coating onto the car ever. That is just a disaster waiting to happen, I am curious though if by using my WSR curing light I could speed up curing time or if it is insignifigant.

The coating in the Delta Kit is not UV cured, it is air cured. The UV light would probably not help in this case.

The spray coating is a bit more of a mess but the finish is impeccable.

I too use Delta Kit but I am always curious as to what else is out there.

There are several options available. I use a UV cure product that I spray on with a Sata Mini Jet. However, I am a certified painter, so taping off and spraying a headlight is not any big issue with me. The results, as was stated previously, are awesome. The lenses are so clear and bright, they often appear to have been replaced with new ones. There are also a number of options for lamps of adequate size, some handheld, some with a tri-pod. The tri-pod set up for the product I use runs $300 and has two lamps on it. There is a company out of California that sells an aerosol spray-on product and their lamp is $1500, but it is a short wave, UV lamp like a bodyshop would use. Personally not a fan of aersol cans for clearcoat or headlight lens restorer. You have a lot more control and will achieve a much better finish with a gun any day of the week in my opinion.
