I would also like to wish everybody a safe and happy holiday.

My father passed yesterday, a World War II veteran with 2 silver medals to his credit. Tough Christmas for us but strong family and friends have been keeping us together. If other veterans read this, please express your thoughts and wishes. I'd greatly appreciate it. He was a great father and friend.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Drystar, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I'm not a vet but have a very deep appreciation for all of those who have served our country with honor. I think God has a special place in heaven for those who give so much and ask for so little in return. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Drystar, I am extremely sorry about your loss. My dad was a vet and at his funeral his regiment came and played the last post, an extremely touching moment. We also will keep you all in our thoughts.

Thank you Brent, Graham, Brian and Frank for your kind words.

He was honored by a military regiment at his funeral, which was very touching and somewhat emotional for all of us.

He fought in the battle of Okinawa, 96th army division. From what I've discovered it was the last battle fought ending World War II. He lived a good life after the war (he was one month short of 90 years old upon his passing). For the last 25 years he attended every division reunion with my mother. Unfortunately, during the last two years, few were left and he stopped going.

After researching I believe he was one of only 50 still living. Never talked much about his service and it always seemed odd as an artillery Sgt., he never possessed a gun in his house or condoned us having one after the war.

He was a time keeper and perfectionist. Probably explains why I'm always on time for all my customer appointments. He's received multiple awards from his city for his yard care, something I could never achieve.

Great man, father and provider. I will miss him!
