Had a bullseye for six months.
Suppose you meet someone who says they have a bullseye on their windshield, but it has been there for six months and it doesnt look like it will get any worse.
What would be a good argument to convince the customer to have it repaired soon?

Right now?
The nearing winter. Frost and moisture, a spreading chip and all that.

Re: Had a bullseye for six months.
I ask people after I've spotted the chip,
Did you know these rock chips can be repaired to save your windshield from cracking out?
If it's not repaired and it turns into a long crack, you're faced with the much higher cost of replacement.
THEN they say, "oh, that's been there for a year, it's not going anywhere".
AND I say, it's quite possible it won't crack out on you but rock chip repair is a preventive maintenance step that guarantees that you won't have to have your windshield replaced.
Certainly not all chips crack out but take a look outside at all those cracked out windshields, EVERY ONE OF THOSE started out as a small chip that had they been repaired, wouldn't be needing replacement.
Sounds cool, yeah! but it's never gotten me the job. I honestly believe these car owner really don't care anyway.

I do a couple things, one is mentioning to them that "I used to agree with them that the type of ding they have is not likely to crack, but then I started looking at cracked windshields and traced the crack back tot he origin. Quite often the crack started with one much like theirs..."
Another is to use reverse psychology and say that they are correct that there is a chance it won't ever run. "Basically it comes down to time & money, if you don't mind spending $300 for a new windshield and a few hours sitting at a shop while they replace it in a couple months when the chip runs, then it might be worth gambling and not hab=ving a $60 repair today."

Oh yeah, today I arrived to fix a guys combo break. I noticed a little batwing about 1/2 inch from the edge of the drivers side. He said it had been there for 3 years. I fixed it for him, the only problem was that I made it run about 4 inches. It has been a couple years since that happened...I hate that!

You bet. My point is why try and argue with the guy who doesn't want his windshield repaired. If he has had it for a year, he just doesn't really care or is a gambler. My point is don't worry about the guy who said no, go find someone who will say yes. This is a numbers game. No telling why some say no. Maybe they don't like your haircut, shirt color, or your shoes. Maybe they have a friend in the business and you just reminded them they need to give ole Joe a call. Who knows! I just can't be bothered by the word no. I know a lot of you sales experts have heard this, but for every no I am getting I am closer to a yes. This profession is a blast if you just don't let the negatives get to you. Go out and have fun.

Amen Dr Chipster!
Like a battlefield triage, not every patient can be saved. It is however strange though that 90% of my clients are the top 5% net worth in my area... The willingness to spend a little now to save 5 times more in a few months does not appeal to the economically ignorant folk... sad, but one of the reasons that the rich get richer....
