re-attaching window regulator clips to glass

Post by ahardb0dy »

1990 nissan sentra, the clips that are glued to the door glass and bolt to the regulator have seperated from the glass, what type of adhesive can I use to re-attach them to the glass? Can windshield urethane be used?

Thanks

You can use polyurethane to reattach clips.Make sure you do a full prime as you would with a w/s and do not wind the glass for at least 24 hours to allow for curing.
Is a customer always right? - No, but they are always the customer.

I always drill a hole through the plastic clip (not the glass!!!) so when you attach the clip to the glass a little urethane will ooze out of the holes and add alittle more strength.

I can't remember who it is, but there is a company that makes universal clips for bolt in door glasses. They are like the Ford door glass clips that sandwich the glass between rubber. They work well.

I believe those 'window things' you refer to are made to replace rivoted door glass hardware. The 'clips' I think the original poster refers to are the kind that cup the glass and then accept the 10mm bolt in the bottom. They are hard to make generic because many have different heights and offset. The hole trick works will, if you pvc prime and drill the hole your urethane should hold up no problem if they leave it up for a day or two.

Don't have to bother drilling holes in the clip , it does not help
The primer is the most important part! both for the clip and the glass.

We drill 'em and it doesn't seem to hurt.

Also, if you are friends with a local body shop, they have an adhesive that dries hard as a rock.

We've never had problems with either method.
