Might be a good idea...however maybe a little more thought, perhaps, into the ad would help out a little...some different fonts, colors, graphics for instance. Hmm intr'esting. Definitely limited to a very specific area of marketing.

Not to mention a little ad writing help from someone who has more than a fourth grade education. I wonder if his repairs are as good as his spelling and English grammatical skills. WOW!

I'm certainly all for new experiments in marketing. He certainly could have enlisted the help of a spell/grammar checker though.

Jeff,
I know that your involved in the manufacturing and distribution side of the business, But do you still do repair work? If so I was wondering what type of marketing you use for the repair side of your business. I've received some phone calls lately from solicitors trying to sell me Pens with my logo on them. I read in Sonny's forum that he uses pens and a card in a sandwich bag and is successful. It sounds like an ok idea but I have no idea the cost of the pens and am always cautious about phone solicitors. Any ideas?

Lab,

I have done repairs, and still do them some (5-10 a month), but I do not do them much. Any repair questions I forward on to people with much more experience.

I handle all of the online things, marketing etc. for Delta Kits. I also help customers out with business & marketing advice.

Personally, I think pens would not be the way to go for a couple of reasons. One, people lose pens very easily, and the whole point is to keep your name in front of them. Also, the cheap ones look *really* cheap, which is not the impression that you want to give.

I would go with something a little different. My favorite is definitely chipsaver cards, which you should be able to get from your manufacturer or from the NWRA. It's different from what they get from other people (mechanics, etc.). They can put them in their glove box and forget about them until they get a break, put one on, and call you since your name is on them.

Another thing would be fridge magnets, maybe with a calendar on them.

As far as giving things away to customers, I would go with one of those.

You could also tell your customers that you will enter their name in a drawing for a gift certificate to a restaurant or something once every couple of months. Helps you stand out from the crowd, gives you a reason to get all their information, and to call them in a couple of months (to tell the winner they won and to tell others they did not), to see how things are going and if they have any other chips.

Anyone else used pens? How do they work?

It is certainly an interesting concept. However, I wonder about soliciting bids for this type of service. It's not as if there is only one or two of a particular item and the best bid takes it. Everyone who bids needs his own windshield repaired, so the bidders are bidding against one another for the only repair available. Its really just a strategy to line up repairs through e-bay. Did I see correctly that he is willing to accept $10 for a minimum bid? Have to a lot of repairs at that price just to break even. I agree with some of the other posts... if this person wants make a professional appearance, he needs to edit his advertisment... he also needs to raise his minimum bid.
