Referrals to replacement companies
Re: Sprinter
Could some of you out there give me an easy way to keep track of the number of referals you send to a replacment company that you may be dealing with....
I tell about 30 to 40 people a month (lots on the phone) that they need to replace their windshields or they call asking for a replacement (I guess it's my name) so I give them the telephone number of the company I use and the contact person to ask for...
In return my replacement company gives me 10% of the total amount he says he replaces, which so far has only been two or three replacements a month. Don't you think that is a little low for the number I send to them each month?
So you can see I do need a better way to track my referals other then calling for the person myself which many times people call when I am right in the middle of doing my own work....
Any suggestions would be helpful..

Referrals to replacement companies
When someone calls you for a replacement get their name and number and tell them you'll call them right back with a quote. Then call the replacement company get a price and a couple of choices they have on the schedule.
Then call the customer back and schedule the work. Don't leave it in the hands of the replacement company to keep track for you.

cracker,
If you would, please be more specific with the details of this process. I have been trying to get local glass shops to participate in a referral percentage program. I have had no luck. I would like to try this method of sub-contracting the the whole job out.
1. What are the legalities?
2. Who gets paid by the customer?
3. Who gives the warranty?
and any other related info. Thanks in advance.
Pay it foward,
Brian

Re: referrals
Hey Ben,
Talk to a small hungry shop that has been in business for a year or two. Tell what you want to do.
We are a full service shop and I have a small network of wsr only businesses. I pay anywhere between $25-50 bucks. The rate just depends on weather it's a cash deal or insurance and the type of vehicle.
I can fax you what we do because it's too wordy to post here.
As far as who collects the money we collect and then pay the fees. We handle all the warranty work as well. Plus we call all of our clients back a week after install just to make sur there are no problems. Our wsr people like how we do things.

I usually call the replacement company and give them the customers munber and then they can set the job up, they get paid the cash or insurance money warranty the glass and work and I get 25.00. when I call them they put my name on the paper work so it's a job through me and then that way they know who it came from.
if you want try a three way call and then you can also keep track of lhow many are replaced, this way they can't slip out from paying you.
if you talk to them in person have a paper they can fill out and fax to the company with your name on it for the credit again the replacement company will be paid and you will get yours!

Re: referrals
I have a few blank invoices from the Glass Company where I send my referrals. When I get a customer that I cannot repair, I call it in to Lynx or Safelite on the Glass shops account, fill out the paperwork for them, then call the Glass shop for an appointment. The customer feels locked in to the shop, I do the paperwork and put my name on the invoice. The Glass shop appreciates the extra effort on my part, it only takes a minute, and I'm sure that the job will be done and I'll get paid.
Re: referrals
I am just now working out a deal with a glass shop. They way they want to do it is have me bill the customer direct, and then I pay the glass shop...they will put it on my account.
With this type of setup, I am selling the service and am in control of pricing. I would basicly sub out the work to the shop. We are talking about a flat rate per windshield for me for most vehicles, so I know what to expect and what to tell people who ask "how much?" My cost seems very resonable... it's low enough that I should have no problem marking up $40-50 and still offer a good deal to the customer... fleet type prices.
The only snags in the plan would be if the glass shop does poor quality work, or won't guarantee/warranty their work. I sounds like this should not be an issue at this point.
I am going to have to get set up now to take VISA cards, because I assume most people will want to charge a $200 purchase... not cash. Anyone using a good credit setup for occasional work... one of the phone-in accounts?
