Busyest time of the year for WSR?

Post by ksanges3 »

Just wondering what everyone's busiest time of the year is. Depending on where you live I know it will vary but I'm planing on moving states in a few years with my family and I want to go somewhere that I can continue to do this as a part time job.

No such thing. If you havnt built your buisness so that you can have a steady income everyday something is wrong. A wide variety of customers will build a steady buisness. rely on one segment and things will get slow sometimes but thats your own fault. The old all your eggs in one basket adage applies

GlassStarz, you always make me chuckle! My busiest time is from spring until winter. I must be doing something wrong because for the past 19 years, here in Maine the winter has always been my slowest. Okay, GlassStarz say something about living in Vermont!! Help me, help me.

Winter should be your busiest All the fleet customers driving the roads covered in gravel and sand from the town trucks. Seriosly the easiest sell in cold climate is the winter time people know if they dont fix it soon it will break. If you havnt built a steady base of fleet, followed by all those office parks and buisness parking lots you cold called all summer. (I give a card smile and tell them to make sure to save it because we all know living here we are going to get a chip ;) )They will start calling after the first storm. (You do do this right  ) Sorry dude if you have built your buisness so that you are seasonal. a Smart guy would have recognised years ago that there must be a way to do this year round. 19 years experience or 1 year experience 19 times? Here are the facts scooter I have done this 12 years now ,I like to move around every so often and have walked into several differnt towns opened up shop and imeadiatly made what I need. Cold Call is a art try learning it and you will never have a slow period. Of course the old dog new tricks probably applies in your case.Cold Call while building a strong client base and Cold Call every chance you get to make new contacts. Vermont was cold and seasonal I worked year around. Fresno Super hot in the summer wet and cold in the winter I worked year around 1200 bucks a week starting week 1. San Diego nice year around and I work make as much as I want live in a nice place on the Beach ( Larry Hagman used to own the place im in its pretty nice exept when the noise from the waves wake me up).My advice to you would be stand back and take a look in the mirror that guy isnt doing everything he can and rather than try to better himself chooses to crack on others. When was the last time you walked a parking lot at a buisness park or Real Estate office found chips and walked in asking who owns that car? Im betting you cant remember Small town New England is a friendly place they will listen 50% will have you repair the chip and remember you when they get another. I kicked ass in Vermont and did monster numbers whenever I went to Portland Maine to take care of my big fleet customer once a month. Close Mouth Open Mind it might make you some Money.

I also do not have slack periods due to the reason GlassStarz mentions, the only quiet periods I get is when I am being lazy and not getting out looking for it, which is not often.

This is the reason for all the years I have been on this forum I have been pushing people to spread the base and get them fleets, I very seldom do one off jobs and for as long as I can remember have not bothered with insurance company customers who will not pay up front.

Just my way but it seems to work, I might not wake up to the sound of waves but WSR has given me a very nice house along with a comfortable lifestyle for the past 25 years. I could not imagine this if my work was too seasonal.

As I expected! Wow, Larry Hagman's old house, cool. And right on the ocean, that must be nice. No need to feel sorry for me dude! I run my business just the way I want it. I never said that in winter business is dead just that it was slower. "Seasonal", ya that's probably a good word for it. No argument here. W/R has been good to me also, nice home, 2 children through college and a nice college fund for the grandchildren. This while in the busy "seasonal" months working under 30 hours a week! I must be lazy. Scooter, thanks for the advice and help. I'm sure it's sound advise for other techs but not for me. No, I never have gone into business parks cold calling. Sounds like fun though.

Graham I lived in the UK a couple years not sure I would want to be near the ocean BRRR and of course the Lakes have those Sea Monsters :o Waters warm here in Mexico so is the Beer and living in a high Bikini content area does have its perks. Sitting in line to cross the Border in the morning would be the downside

:D We got some sunshine today and maybe tomorrow followed by rain. On the news a few days ago they mentioned that the UK has had snow somewhere every month for the last 7 months. It is becoming a very grey place to live, but it is where the kids are so it looks like we will be staying put.
