What is the worst experience you have had on a job?
This is not a bashing or promoting thread, just curious. Mine is actually on a headlight job, I was doing the work for a manager at a car dealership about 7-8 months ago. I had an almost empty can of spray and a full can. Pulled his truck in the garage and sanded down headlights. Did about half a headlight with almost empty can and pulled the other can out, guess what, it wouldn't spray. I changed the nozzles, ran it under warm water, and even tried sticking a screwdriver in hole. I called the manufacturer up and figured out I shouldn't have left can in my truck in Louisiana heat, caused ingredients to harden up. Obviously it was my fault but I was new at the headlight business. I knew in back of mind it shouldn't sit in truck but there had been a cool spell then got hot again and I didn't take it out of truck. I had to go to manager with a half done headlight and other sanded all the way down. He was cool with it and I was able to fix it up the next week when supplies came in. I was completely embarrassed especially with all the mechanics around seeing it all unfold. I always keep windshield supplies inside when not in use and just didn't pay as much attention to my headlight spray, I do now though. Any other bad or embarrassing moments out there? Oh, and this was the manager's personal truck, yikes. I'm still working with them to this day though.

Re: What is the worst experience you have had on a job?
I was pretty new to the wholesale side of the business and visited a large distributor in Colorado for the first time. We drove a couple of hours out to a prearranged meeting with a half dozen glass shop owners where I was to demonstrate a Delta Kits windshield repair system. It was a very hot day, over 100 degrees, so we had the air conditioning going full blast all the way there. Without giving it any thought I put my tool box at my feet on the floor board of the van where it remained until we arrived.
The windshield they had arranged for me to repair was on an older Chevy pickup that belonged to a customer of one of the glass shop owners. It had been sitting out in the hot sun all day so you could fry an egg on the windshield by the time we got there. Normally I would try to get the vehicle in the shade and/or find a way to cool the windshield a bit right away, but I was excited about the opportunity to strut my stuff and show these guys what a "real" windshield repair technician could do with a good set of tools, so I cleaned the pit area of the large star break, mounted my bridge, and grabbed my resin out of that nice cold tool box. Well you know where this one is going...but I'll finish my story anyway!
As soon as the resin touched the glass one of the cracks started to run. I had the bridge off the glass in an instant but it was already too late; the crack ran all the way across the windshield! No one said a word or showed any kind of expression. They all just watched me to see what the dumb kid from Delta Kits would do next. I could only think of one thing to do. I reached for my wallet and asked "how much?" They all had a good laugh at my expense but the shop owner told me not to sweat it as he had already told his customer the windshield would likely have to be replaced. The drive back to my distributor's office was very long and quiet so I had lots of time to mull over all the things I had done wrong that day.
Embarrassed? Yes indeed! That was probably 20 years ago and the memory is still painfully clear. The story has a happy ending however. The distributor gave me a chance to redeem myself and we've done a lot of business with them ever since.

Re: What is the worst experience you have had on a job?
Iv'e had a few unpleasant experiences doing glass repair but nothing compared to experiences during my glass replacement career.
I've had funny ones where I was bitten by a guard dog at a truck yard. When I complained to the yard boss saying I didn't get any warning he said the "the dog don't bark, he just bites", or the driver who got a little too close when I was fitting is new rear screen using the "string in" method, the string suddenly gave under tension and I punched the guy clear on the chin.
I've had weird ones like when a driver came in for a replacement screen. It had been broken when he was driving through North Africa and a guy there had repaired it by cutting slithers of ordinary domestic glass 2" wide and fitting them into the windscreen frame. Must admit he did a good job of fitting even though it was as dangerous as hell.
Sadly I've had tragic ones, the worst being asked to replace a screen into a car where a guy had decided to commit suicide by throwing himself onto a car from a central reservation and he went straight through the screen, injuring the driver.
