What is your daily routine for sales?

Post by dnkies »

Hey guys,

I hit the streets pretty hard this week to try and jump start my WSR business. I just quit my job last week to make the commitment from a part time WSR business to a full timer. I wanted to hit it hard this week to see how many repairs I could get in a week by walking and talking with people and businesses.

My days started around 9 when I think about what area Im going to target and I'm walking into businesses by 10am looking for clients. I usually look for parking lots with only 2-4 cars because I know it will be easier to find the owners of the cars with chips and the office will likely be less busy so they have time to speak with me.

I didn't start until Tuesday this week but did 3 repairs on Tuesday and 6 on Wednesday.....Thursday was a rough day...I walked all over the place and was only able to get one repair....People were just not as friendly or open that day....Needless to say, Thursday was pretty hard on my moral and I'm hoping it gets better today (Friday)

Just wondering how you guys all approach the streets and try to drum up sales? What is your best method or sales pitch? What places do you target? Etc...

I need this business to work so that is why I keep coming to the forum for help. Thanks so much.

Sounds like you are going at it correctly just remember a couple things ALWAYS ask for the work now and when you have a couple bad calls in a row stop take a soda or whatever break and get your head together. There are no bad days just bad salemen on those days and it happens to us all. the old adage about a check up from the neck up applies here. The more you do it the easier the sale will be just keep smiling and hitting the doors 8-)

Dan aka dnkies,

when you are "hitting the streets"...what type of customers are you approaching? i.e. residential, auto dealerships, office complexes, retail mall gas stations?

You stick around long enough you will find your nich.Everybody has a different % that comes from fleet, insurance, etc. We all have a gift of some sort but you have to figure out how to utilize it.I have got lazy and really depend on rental and some semi fleet and sprinkle in a few insurance agents. I worked my tale off for the first 5 years but not as much now.For you new guys it will take a a lot of gas and long hours.

Check to see if you have any car auctions in your area. I met someone recently that was working used car dealerships daily, and driving 50 plus miles. He was steered to an auction lot. He works only that lot and makes very good money and no more long distance driving. Sales is the animal that breaks most new people that start out in owner operated businesses. Stick with it. Know your product and fine tune your skill. Dont be afraid of doors being closed in your face. It want hurt you. Stay positive and move on to the next potential customer. Once you have a customer base, work on your referrals. Good service will generate word of mouth business for you. Have a great day.

What is your "walkin" price that get's their attention. 4 repairs a day is great!
