Re: D.A.R.E and Chipio
I had a client whom wouldn't use my services due to *********** and they're advertisment of D.A.R.E!
I think this company is quite pathetic to say the least. They are in hoots with a local company in our area whom goes by the name Apple Unlimited, you can Google them and ***********. You should do research on this threat of a company as they are making our industry look bad.
They also have multiple ads in this area Craigslist and Careerabuilder.com for Hiring No Experience Needed WSR Techs!!!!!!
Great Job! On helping shut that operation down! Let's all unite!

Re: D.A.R.E and Chipio
Sunshine,
In my experience, I actually had all the insurance info when CSR's accidentally sent me 5 referrals one evening (all within one hour which I thought was odd) Each one sent from 3 different insurances were for 3 chip repairs. I thought I hit the lotto in repair that day....until I started to call these customers for appointment scheduling. They all had been done by these car wash people. The 5 insureds I contacted and questioned all told me the same story. They collected my insurance info and was told it was free, no call to insurance, no invoice or collected signatures. Repairs took 3-5 minutes (they put some glue over the chips and wiped it off) No equipment used, no curing lamps and not even plastic Mylar strips.
That's when I contacted these insurance companies and networks to let them know what was happening. At first they really didn't care or took me seriously. They said they would investigate and get back to me. They never did get back to me but this operation 3 years later dissipated in my area. That's all I wanted!

I would like them gone from my area too ! but as in your case I think it's gonna take a while. What bothers me the most is, the customers are going to regret it later and when they see me in my car with 6 inch lettering all over it they're gonna say there goes one those BLANKETY -BLANK windshield repair guys that $hoot don't work !

Do not worry about what the others do, we have had those same problems for the last 24 years. Just make sure you are the best and that as many people as possible know. How do you become the best? with continuous practice, after all these years I still always have a practice windshield on the stand in the workshop and I often drop in just to try something new I have thought about.

Screenman , I respect your 24 years and practice, practice concept, I've been out here for 10 years doing the best repairs and educating the public on what constitutes proper repair . ONLY to have it all torn down in 1 weekend by this group of marketing predators. in 30 to 40 minutes I saw them get in the face of at least 30 or more clients . Wish I'd have seen them on Friday instead of Sunday !

Im not sure if you are aware of this but there are others out there working in your area and you cant control how they do buisness. After 20 years plus in the car buisness I learned not to wory about how the other guy sold cars just do my buisness in a professional manner
All sales crews and thats what they are use a hook the magazine folks often use the Special olympics they make it sound like thats where they are from not that they give a very small donation from each sale to them sounds like your area Chipio franchise is doing the same with Dare.
Not sure how your buisness is now ruined because of some goofs at a Super Market parking lot I would think that after seeing them customers would flock to a professional looking and acting source
Spend less time on what others do and go out and do something positive for yourself

Retail sector is only a very small part of our business, in fact I would say the public make up about 5% of my repair work. Also not everybody uses the same supermarket.

I'm very aware that there are others out there working in my area, some friend - some foe.
My business is in no way "ruined"(I never said that) by this, but, when uneducated "techs" start educating -uneducated customers (unethical) just to rape the insurance companies(unlawful) . It is detrimental to all of us !

Just keep educating the consumer as much as you can as we do. These bozos come and go, and they will be gone in your area as well. Good luck!

Re: D.A.R.E and Chipio
I would like to research the criminal cases that Farmer's insurance have publicised and see how the actual "charges" are described in the indictments. What actually constitutes fraud? Is it in what the salespeople are saying to customers or are they repairing surface chips that don't need it? I've been trained to know the difference, for the most part, but does anyone actually know when a surface chip doesn't need repair? I've seen surface chips, that I would have ignored, actually crack out. So, where is the standard in determining the scope of "preventive maintenance"?
