Has anyone heard of or offer this service?

"Stop Crack Procedures

If you need your windshield replaced but you cannot afford it, I can do an emergency stop crack procedure. This usually stops a crack from spreading, but the entire length of the crack is not filled with resin.

This is a temporary measure and should not be substituted for replacing the windshield.

If you cannot afford your deductible, speak to your insurance agent about getting a stop crack repair. I have found that in some cases, insurance companies will pay for a stop crack procedure and waive the deductible."

That is not a service, I would say more of a dis-service. That guy needs to learn how to repair windshields, when will this trade start to get more professional.

Screen,
I'm not for sure, but I think he's just trying to help his customers out with cracks longer than 6 inches. Per ROLAGS cracks longer than 6 inches should not be repaired, so is this such a bad thing in giving his customers another option other than a replacement?

There is no difference filling a 12inch crack to filling a 6inch crack, just takes slightly longer. Have another look at the guys website to quote "Cracks from 6-14" can be repaired, however, I do not provide this service at this time." It reads to me either he does not have the skill or cannot be bothered. Just drilling and popping is adding very little back into the strength of the glass, which is what a repair is supposed to do.

I agree 100% with every part of this statement. Screenman, I realise your last line is more frustration than question, I feel it too, but I do hope there is a positive answer coming soon.

Anyone that charges money for repairs should also offer lifetime (life of vehicle ownership) guarantees on the same repair. Obviously you couldn't offer that on this kind of procedure so if you do this (I don't) there should be no charge in hopes of developing a future business relationship with the customer after he buys his new windshield. That's about the only value I see in doing something like this.
