Re: acetone
I had a safelite employee tell me that, says it lowers the boiling point as does the vacuum.

Re: acetone
Acetone is used as a solvent for PVC; it penetrates, softens and eventually dissolves the material. It will do the same thing to the PVB used to laminate windshields and therefore should not be used for this purpose. You never want to damage the PVB.

Re: acetone
agreed Brent. we used to cut lami glass and use acetone to burn the center pvb. sometimes the acetone would start softening the layer before we set fire to it.

Re: acetone
Yeah, we actually made a short video the last time this issue came up showing how alcohol melts through the PVB as that is another chemical some technicians use to clean out breaks or lower the boiling point.

Re: acetone
The reason they do this is because they are 20 years out of date. It is what Novus thought was correct back in those days, I have proved to their technicians many times their method does not work. Why should they want to do quality repairs, they are a replacement company each successful repair loses them the sale of a windshield.
Here is a line for you, what would you rather have $50 or $150, come on you have a few minutes to think about it.
