Certification (formerly New member here from TX.)
Hello everyone, my name is Eric. I've been a long time reader of this forum and just signed up last night. I would like to thank everyone for their time and input to make it easier for new guys like me to have a forum like this.
Anywho, I have a question on being certified by NGA by taking a Certified Auto Glass Technician course. I went to NGA’s website and they referred me to MyGlassClass to take the course. After entering my information into MyGlassClass, they then sent me to Texas Lutheran University to complete the course. I then called TLU and they stated they no longer offer this course.
So, does anyone know of a program close to the Austin area where I can take the Certified Auto Glass Technician course and then become certified by NGA?
P.S. I called NGA about this, but have not heard back from them.
Thanks for your time,
Eric

Re: New member here from TX.
If you are repair only, don't waste your money. If you replace, yeah get it.
I would pay for a Delta certification if you use their system, but it really only shows you can use their system properly(and many customers don't,),and you are only basically trained. You can get the NWRA ROLAG info free, why pay for certification when starting out?
These certificate avatars look cool when you post, but mean very little to your customers. I was recently asked for the 2nd time in almost 22 years while doing a repair by a newbie if I had any certs'-told him no.He went in to my dealer, lowballed repair to $25, I walked in and told my friend my repairs were free when said newbie came by. I saw his truck, and told him I'd stop every time I saw it in my area and make the same offer. Thought he was going to cry .Haven't seen his truck in several weeks!!!
Replacement is a different deal.

Re: New member here from TX.
I got the basic tng from Delta kits. Then I took the test on my computer through NWRA. NWRA and Delta can email you a copy of the study material. I've only been asked a few times about certification. Insurance companies often ask. I wear the Delta KIt & NWRA Patch on my uniform shirt & Jacket. It looks professional and most customers seem to be more at ease when they see it. I saw a guy doing repairs on a street corner a few days ago in a T-shirt. He was doing repairs for $15. The jobs were not that good on what I saw. He was mainlly sealing the WS and not filling the break with resin. I saw him do one without a bridge and to tell you the tuth I never saw him with a bridge system or kit. Only a few bottle of Pit resin either time I passed by. Practice and take your time is the best advice I can give you. This forum is a great source for information. I repaired 4 WS yesterday. 2 were fro LYNX's and 2 were for a dealer. After the repairs 2 breaks were nearly invisible, 1 I could see a small skeleton on a 1 1/2 inch star break and the other I could see a skeleton in the break due to contamination and that break was more than a year old and about 1 1/4 inch combination star/bullseye. I/ve seen easy breaks that turned out not to be so easy and Year old breaks that were 2" that filled and were 95% or better repaired. I learn every time I do a repair and I continue to practice. Whoever you buy your equipment from get training on how to use it. Good luck.

I changed the subject of your post to make it more relevant and therefore more easily found. You will find that the more closely your subject matches the topic the more helpful the responses to your posts will be.
I took the liberty of contacting Miguel at the NWRA because I was certain that you could get certified with the NGA online. With Miguel's permission I will share his response here on the forum. I've contacted Miguel a number of times over the years, both by telephone and by email, and I have always found him to be responsive and helpful. You might give him a call if you have additional questions about the NGA certification.
Brent,
We still offer online training courses for Auto Glass Replacement and Repair certification. As you know, most technicians that register for the online courses have some sort of hands on training experience which is very helpful in order to understand better the online courses. Also, we recommend techs to purchase the reference manual for Replacement and Repair to study for the online exam as well. It appears that Eric is incorrect on one thing regarding MyGlassClass.com website. MyGlassClass.com has never informed technicians to complete the online courses with Texas Lutheran University. I don’t know where he got that information, but it is absolutely incorrect.
Technicians can complete all the online courses and register for the online exam to become certified.
I have not received a call or voicemail message from Eric, but we would gladly help him set up an account with MyGlassClass.com.
If you need questions regarding online training with MyGlassClass.com or Certification, please feel free to contact me at my direct number: 703-442-4890 x 130

Please note that the NGA Auto Glass Repair is a Lifetime Certification (no need to re-certify in that field) but Replacement is not (must re-certify every 3 years)

First I would like to thank everyone for their replies and input.
Brent,
I’m not sure why Miguel can say I’m incorrect. I’m not saying 100% I am, but I will walk you through what I did and then maybe we can find out what happened.
I went here: http://www.myglassclass.org/cataloged2go.htmland clicked on the Certified Auto Glass Technician link. That brings you here http://www.gatlineducation.com/autoglas ... nline.htmlwhere you enter your zip code on the right side (78727). That then brings you to TLU’s website for the course.
Again thanks for the help and please let me know where if I did go wrong.
P.S. I’ve been out all day, so I have yet to call. I probably will just have to wait until Monday now.

Their websites can be a bit confusing. I just sent you a link to the correct site but I will post it here as well. http://www.glass.org/certified-study.html
Let me know if that doesn't work or call Miguel directly.
Here is the link to the NWRA certification page. It can be a bit difficult to find as well. http://www.nwrassn.org/certification.php
