Actually he said the night I was talking with him that he did try a razor blade and did not help. Truly is a brain teaser. It is almost like at the factory (chrysler) before they laminated the two pieces of glass together, they wiped it off and not well and it is in the glass. I had a Ford Pick Up that was like that. Ford actually replaced the glass under warranty as they were just as surprised as I was. They had their body shop try everything to get that spot which was a circular suction cup mark off my glass and could not do it.

If it is inside the glass getting it wet should not change the appearance.

I agree Brent, the damage does not seem to be on the inside due to the fact that water diminishes the damage.

Would you know the year, make and model of this vehicle? Might end up cheaper replacing it then repairing it.

If it's hard water or chemical damage a razor blade wouldn't remove that. Glass is a porous material and it either has to be replaced or buffed out with a light glass abrasive compound. Not long ago I use to ask every customer about their glass shower doors when doing windshield repairs. Good add on service if you have the right equipment and products.

Without seeing a picture of the glass it is difficult to say what is the cause. A few possible answers have already been mentioned. One of the main causes of glass staining is silicone, which is present in some types of car wax. If someone has waxed the car and wiped the screen as well this would leave streaking and swirl marks which are difficult to remove. My best advice would be as already has been mentioned, treat a small area of the glass with a windscreen polisher and it this does the trick polish the rest of the screen. Remember to fit new wipers as well, because they will also be contaminated with silicone.

You are right Brent. I must have had a brain fart. Forgot all about that....LOL

Glasseye might correct. If Rain-X (which is silicone based) wasn't applied properly you might see a hazy film when dry but not so much when wet. If all else fails a replacement for that vehicle is fairly inexpensive ($165-$185 in my area). Good luck with helping your friend.
