Re: CALIFORNIA WSR START-UP COSTS???
Hi-
I'm in Northern Ca. I am assuming that you are doing mobile repairs and that you do not have a physical shop. Depending on where you live, each county has specific requirements. Here in Oakland, I had to obtain a $23.00 tax certificate. Each year, based on annual reported income, I pay a small amount to the county ($50 or $1.80 per thousand earned, whichever is greater).
CA (along with any insurance networks) requires that you obtain liability insurance. I use RLI, which I found by going through older posts on this forum. I did some research and they seemed to be competitive price wise. I've used them for the past 2 years without any problems.
Its a pretty simple, inexpensive start up for a mobile WSR business in CA. If you have a physical location in addition to doing mobile repairs, I suggest going to www.ca.gov for in depth info. Type "licensing and permits" in the search bar and it will take you right to the information.
Hope this helps a little....

Guys,
Best of luck to you.
The $168 RLI ins. does NOT cover the car you are working on-only those around you. Many of us THOUGHT we were covered and are not. They are now offering true garage keepers ins for more money. Be careful.

Also in caifonia, you need get a business license from the state and have a local news paper print and run a ficticouse name statement for I think two or three weeks. Call your local news and they will probably do the leg work for you. It's also a good idea to get a Federal I. D. And a resale license just invade you need sell something.
