That comment didn't register with me either. Just under sell cosmetics and provide your best effort. I commonly let customers know it will look 100% better than what is was but not 100% clarity of a new shield. I let them choose as to what they want.

Yeah, what's that "put the pipe down" comment supposed to mean and who is that directed at? Are you calling someone high on drugs? Not cool. And Dave, how can a repair look 100% better unless it is completely invisible?

I never said anything about 100% better! But, I would have to agree. If you tell your customer 100% better, It should be invisible.

You guys sometimes crack me up with your comments!

After 18 years in this biz, I've learned exactly what to say and how to handle every repair and every customer. When I tell a customer it will look 100% better than it was and then tell them it won't be 100% perfect...they all seem to understand. Never had a complaint. Doesn't matter if it's 80% or 99% better...they're just happy it's fixed and guaranteed from future spreading of damage.

May not be your sales approach but it has always worked for me.

Let me ask you all that commented, What percent do you think is left visible after the repair.... ?

I do tell the customer after I find out how long the break has been there, what kind of break it is, and if it has been washed before, ect.... I evaluate all the factors before I give them a % visibility that may show. After 20 yrs, one should be able to know what your own work will look like....
I tell the customer that there should be a 2 - 5% visibility left andsay that no one can make it look 100%... That is 95 - 98% filled.
To them, they can not hardly see most repairs and say it looks like a water spot....

I even let them sit in the car and watch the whole process and tell them what I am doing if thay want to. They like that I do that for them.... I hide nothing. To them this could be their pride and joy, (baby) as some of us have heard.

Possibly just chippin away happened to check out my website (honored if you did) about comments made about 80% better looking.. I had taken Brent's sage advice about nine years ago about fully explaining the process and mentioning the industry standard for cosmetic appearance is at least 75% better clarity and appearance but the main thing they pay me for is to restore the structural integrity of the windshield. With that in mind I have always explained how a typical leg looks when filled and cured as far as light reflection and refraction is concerned as well as the "little spot that looks like a water spot with a little dust settled on it, size depending on amount of surface glass chipped out by the rock".
Now, after putting your heart and soul into each and every repair don't you just love to hear "Wow, looks great, I can't even see where the damage was!" I encourage and really enjoy having the customer watch and learn. When up on a ladder I have customers had me diffent things I may need. They like that and ask if I pay for all the good help they have given me during the repair, my answer "Nope, and I don't charge for good training either"
It is a great business isn't it

I am going to try to not hurt your feelings because I am known for affending and adding salt to wounds.

I went to your web..... To much reading to me... If I were a customer would just be looking for a reliable shop with good recommendations. Not the science of a windshield...
It may be good reading for someone that really has a need learn, but the average person scans and finds what they need in less than 3 Min's according to a web marketing program I was watching recently.

I think pictures would say more than words.

Good comment, I get a lot of calls from that and my other one, {URL removed by moderator}
A little different, get comments both angles so I'm always tweaking. I'm sort of inclined to agree with you but some have told me so many pics I've removed slow down the fancy phones people use on their home from work when a rock says hello.
All constructive criticisms more than welcome. One thing is on google and yahoo searches I come up generally at the top of the list in most communities I work in.
I hope your business is great a having a good time doing it.

We are getting off track a little but I started this thread so,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Get over it......

I was talking to an old friend from my auto dealer parts counter job. He has started a web business, we are going to try to do a web page as he catches up... He did say there is a new system that can show your iphones as a shorter version with out all the clutter and stuff. He said most web designers do not use that because it is a different formatting that what they have done and do not want to spend the money to make the changes. Not sure there....
I do get a lot of folks locating me on the web just searching and finding me on the free sites... I think it would be worth my time to try it and run a page or two in both styles....

Just giving you more input to fill your head..... I was hearing bla bla bla till he was talking English at the end as I told him what I wanted in a site.... I liked the challenge.. I will see, Hell it is only money $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Hope that bit of info helps
