Newbie Question About Pricing

Just a quick rookie question about pricing I've seen posted on the forum. I've seen people listing their pricing in the format of say 50-10-10. I get what the 50 and the first 10 is for, what is the last 10?

Maybe. I was just assuming you would charge the same for every repair after the first.

Before the recession hit, I was charging 45-25-25 on the same windshield, wholesale or retail. Wholesale is now down to 35-10-10 with some folks doing "repairs" for 20 and 25, no matter how many repairs on the same glass. You have to do your homework and find out what your specific market will bear. Retail always pays more, but you also have to run more. Only you can decide what end of the market to pursue and what pricing you need to use in order to be profitable.

You also need to keep in mind a new windshield costs around $175 - $200 installed on a standard vehicle. So, if you charged 50-50-50, there would be very little incentive to repair other than to preserve the original seal.

In my area, bucks county pa, a new as goes for about 200-250. Keep in mind every area is different.

The 50 covers your expense to get were you are going, now that you are there and you have more than one chip it is only a matter of grabbing another injector or taking a short time to do the next repair if using one injector for a few bucks more. No sense in charging 50 50 50. In these times money is hard to come by and I would not want to give all my bucks to a greedy tech trying to make it all of one customer.

Do you see the insurance companies and networks charging 50 50 50? They are the ones that brought all the scammers and hacks out of the woodworks paying so damn much.. Your 50 50 50 would make them look like angels with their pricing.

5 or 10 for the extra repair should be enough and to give the customer a good deal.

As usual, my views are harsh and to the point,,,, We are here to save the customer money, not to rip them off like the bad reputation hack shops..

In my area I charging 35-10-10. If I travel to their location I charge an additional 10.

In my area most common replacement windshields (Chinese glass) go for $130 - $150 out the door (at the shop - mobile is extra). Some are as low as $100. With this in mind I charge $40, 15, 15. Many times I only charge $10 for additional chips if they are simple repairs. I also have a multivehicle discount of $10 off the 1st rock chip ($30) on each vehicle at the same location at the same time.

All I can add to that lot is, I am staying in my area that is for sure. Make sure you really know how much the others in your area charge, do not guess and certainly do not always believe what the customer tells you. The most basic of negotiating skills when buying is to say you can get the product cheaper, now is it the same product?

Belron over here now charging £105 or $162 for a chip.
