Blue or Green Tape?

I was curious which tape other techs use? I currently use the Blue painters tape but have noticed it is easily removed once wet and It is extremely difficult to remove when finished. I heard the Green tape is perfect as it is sturdy enough o maintain it's durablity during the repair, regardless if it gets wet, it's a little thicker and very easy to remove. If this is the case I am investing in the GREEN!

I use the green because IMO I have found it the stick better and does not allow the clear coat to bleed through. Plus around here it is a little bit cheaper then the blue.

Anyone using crashwrap and cutting it out around the the headlight

green works best, yellow is cheaper but, pulls apart easlier at the end of job when wet.

I purchased some of the green last year form a body shop. Much cheaper than the blue 3M at Walmart . I use both depending on the vehicle and wheather the bumper has been repainted or is peeling. I also de-sticky it against my trouser leg prior to puttting it on the vehicle. It holds up nicely. I now clean the lens with prep spray prior to taping off, then remove the tape when I clean the lens, prior to applying the UV coating. I keep a wet blue shop towel in my hand incase I have a run.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the fact that there are dozens of brands of blue tape, green tape, etc. 3M alone has several different blue tapes and each has it's purpose. Some stick better than others, some are easier to remove, some are thicker and/or stronger and some are obviously more expensive. I'm sure most of you know this already, but just wanted to make it clear that you should not be choosing a tape strictly by it's color or by it's price. I'd hate to see a newbie go to the dollar store and pick up a bunch of green or blue tape only to find it is complete garbage. Even some of the 3M tapes will not perform well for our application so you have to know what to look for. We've tested dozens of masking tapes from a variety of companies and continue to do so, changing when we find one that seems to out perform our current selection.

Like with most things, spending a few cents more on each job will save you money in the long run, and spending a bit of extra time to find the product that works for you will make each job easier.
