In Utah we have a lot of natural resources a lot of mines and quarries that transport on our main freeway the I15 we are also one of the few states that still allow our roads to be chipped and sealed leaving lots of rocks or pebbles on the road and during the winter we mix our salt with sand rather then use chemical deicers to work the roads. That is the main reason windshield repair is such a stiff market here they say in the average house replaces 1.3 windshields per year just driving down the street you will see a WR tent every couple of blocks with a college kid sleeping. I will probably only do 2 or 3 cash deals a month because of the low rates their is a tent next to my house that charges $10 per windshield regardless how many chips you have I won't do it less than $30 per windshield anymore.

With Fleet accounts in mind on pricing, is it customary to give a flat fee per windshield or a percentage off ?
if a flat fee, is it by the # of vehicles like $55 for 1-5 vehicles, $50 6-10 $45 11+ (base prices were for example purposes only)

Another thought on fleet accounts, regarding the billing. Is it customary on fleet accounts to expect to be paid upon services rendered (they cut you a check) or send them a bill / have them send you a check by a specified date?

I do not have a ton of fleet accounts but the ones I have mail me the check. I usually get paid quickly within two weeks and certainly inside of a month.

I have all fleet accounts and I invoice at the end of the month and I receive my checks by the 15th of the following month.

That is good to know guys, in a general sense on the 1st part, have you found that a flat fee works better than a percentage off? if flat fee would you think X dollars per vehicle regardless how many repairs, or is it graduated depending on how big the fleet?

I appreciate all you insight

For me, I charge per chip, per vehicle the majority of the time. I did try prospecting accounts on a flat rate approach becuase it is more money up front for the first chip and there may not be other chips on a windshield. What I found was it did not get the intrest I recieved with a lower per chip per vehicle pricing. Remember the beauty of being a business owner is you can do what you want when you want. So if the you want to clean up a new accounts fleet maybe offer a flat rate incentive or if you have a vehicle with many chips and want it to be realistic for the manager to fix it rather than replace it, offer an attractive flat rate price. I know that is not an answer but it is options for you to make you best decision. Some times you have to feel it out on the job. I am not an advocate of lowballing but in todays economy if I was in a position to have to take care of my family and it depended on a job I would do what ever it takes.

Hope the perspective helps.
