Three way calls or calls on speakerphone + recording the call takes care of most steering problems. Just be sure to let everyone on the call know they are going to be recorded and that you are going to be on the call the entire time the CSR is talking to your customer, and be sure to check local, state, and federal laws regarding call recording. You know the drill..."This call is being recorded for quality assurance" or something along those lines. It just keeps everyone honest.

I just start the repair before i make the call to the insurance company.
This eliminates steering

All of ths is why I quit doing buisness with networks . seems i have to do all the junping through hoops and hope they don't steer my customer away or leave them uncomfrtable. Is has just been to easy to collect the payment and move on to the next customer . I have never had a check that was not good or a cc that would not go through. I have also noticed that when I am not advertising FREE repairs I do not get all of the ridiculos people asking if I can fix this.Seems to me people know nothing is FREE and would rather pay the $40 bucks .Plus I do long crack repair and Insurance won't pay for that anyway . so I just gave up with the insurance and I have never lost a customer because I did not file the claim for them .

When I first signed up with SGC, I remember that I had to fill out an application, supply my business insurance information, take a picture (print it out), and send all of this in. I was declined 2 months later via a basic letter saying they had enough shops in my area at this time. So, I re-applied again about 2 months later, and was approved.......

Don't know, in my opinion, the Networks NEVER make sense.....not complaining though, because I enjoy the money I make :D

Ok!,

So basically what happened was that I first signed up with SGC myself. I then about 5 months later signed up with ACT only because they didn't offer the online EDI portion of the billing process. Well when I signed up through ACT that basically placed my shop under their umbrella and canceled my shop's contract in which I started.

When I left ACT to begin using the online SGC EDI billing options I basically lost my "Affiliate" status with them. This is why I am in the boat i am in with the insurance companies not referring to my shop as an approved shop!

So I will be re submitting a "NEW" application with them soon and hopefully will be back in business as an "Afilliate"????

Just wanted to clear this up! Thanks Mindy for your hard work!

Chad,

Curious... Did the ACT agreement state you authorize them to do that? If not, is that legal for either party to cancel your SGC contract without your authorization?

At least you have it figured out, hopefully without to much of an impact.

Iam confused with all of this. When I filled out the packets last may for Lynx & SGC I was approved within a few days. Since that time I have only recieved updates and not one single referral. I have been contacted by Glass Master. If I refer customers that need a replacement they will send me a referral fee. Also If they have a call to my area and it can be repaired they will refer them to me. I just talked to the agent for this area this past week. I don't know how this will work out, but I did send them a client this weekend. My cliet was charged $186 for a installed WS on a 2002 jeep sport. They drove 45 miles one way to put it in at the clients home. A local WSR shop would have charged about $275 for the same WS and the client would have had to take his vehicle to the shop and leave it. I tried to update my profile for the insurance companies but it rejects my NWRA certification, Deltakits training and will only accept NGA and one other for the block provided. I plan to call this week and try to talk to someone about this and ask some questions. I have the computers & a fax in my office as requested. I also had a credit card service with mobile access. I provided bank information as requested. I find it hard to believe I am not getting any call work through them while the replacement shops are. I plan to burn more midnight oil on this or Iam never going to advance in WSR. This is an education reading through the forum, providing more insight to the problems and pitfalls as a WSR tech.

Candyman,

I too am in that same boat, I definately believe that there is "Steering" in this business! and or Industry. It came from an gentlemen himself at SGC when I was speaking to him. I will keep his name unspoken. He said "If there is a job to be done and a Safelite technician cannot handle that job they would in return seek out there list of available shops, He said it is not a rotation list as everyone thinks there is. They basically choose the company that is within closer distance to the customer" Maybe not to those exact words , yet that was the "Brunt" of his statement to me when I asked him why in over a year my company hasn't recieved a referral from SGC since being a part of their network.

He also informed me that it is highly possible that due to us not being an affiliate shop that too henders us from receiving referral work as well. My question is what about the 4 or so months we were an affiliate shop when I signed us up with them and continued to be an affiliate shop for close to 6 more months being with ACT. We have never received a refferal from none of the networks. The only referral we have received is 3 days after signing up with HSG they called with a replacement and "WE DON'T DO REPLACEMENT" LOL!!!

So although I donot base my customer prospects, or business off of Referral revenue I think it's quite strange how the system works!!

As to SGT post reply, I don't feel that I have a leg to stand on when it comes to the topic "Legal" I definately agree they shouldn't be allowed to cancel my contract with them like they did. I will take a further investigation into the issue and see if they had that power to make such a decision!

I had my first issue with SGC the other day. When my customer called to get the approval, they were told that our company was not an affiliate and they would send out a Safelite representative. When I called and questioned them on it with my customer on the phone, they apologized and said that we were an affiliate and she apologized for her colleagues mistake. I got the repairs, but I question their motives. Steering is ALIVE AND WELL!
