Safelite not Trustworthy?

Post by bonesdad »

Reading several posts about Safelite in this forum, I'm concerned that they are not the right folks to be dealing with to replace a windshield. Also, it does not appear that they follow the ANSI standards?? I don't see them listed on AGRSS site.

Also considering a local company that offers up to $250 back on WR if you let them place a temporary decal on the windshield (supposedly removable). Do any of you do such a practice?

Please comment on Safelite and the quality of the glass/work, not their business practices.

THanks!

bonesdad,

To be honest, I had some top gun glass installers work for me that previously worked for Safelite. These guys took alot of pride in what they did. Not saying or defending Saflite in any way, but your install reallly comes down to individual installer effort. One week they work for safelite and next week for sombody else. That's how the glass biz works,

thanks for the reply...so basically it comes down to luck of the draw. I'd best be there to look over their shoulder the whole time...of course, I know nothing about a good install...any things I should look for?

Things to look for :-
1) Personal image - takes a pride in his appearance & an open nature.

2) Tools - looks after his tools & stores them neat & tidy

3) Prepping - prepares the car with protection & checks replacement glass
beforestarting.
4) Working - works on & around the car in such a way as to avoid damage.

5) Standards - applies primers, cleaners. etc. to manuf. advice.

6) Finish - finishes his work by leaving the car cleaner than when started.

7) Personal standard - applies this same standard consistently from a Rolls
Royce to a Skoda (apologies to any Skoda owners)
