I do a bit of scratch removal on windshields and store fronts. I use Janvil polishing systems for both the Glass and Plastic.
I just got involved with a Car dealer restoring their headlight assemblies that have turned hazy and yellow. They have very good product at great prices. I am really starting to like polishing headlights. I can do a car in a matter of minutes and they always turn our decently. I found that I can make a lot of $$ at it. Since no one else does headlights in my area here in FL, I am in high demand.

Re: Polishing
I also use Janvil Plastic polish to repair yellow looking headlights. I primarily do headlight refinishing at my dealerships and get anywhere from $25 to $50 a light assembly.
Janvil Plastic restore works great for removing the old looking appearance on the outside of the light. The only lights that I have problems with are the ones that have dirt and moisture on the inside since I do not remove the assembly from the vehicle to crack them open to polish the inside. I can however improve the look of ones like these quite a bit. It takes me about fifteen or so minutes a car to do all 4 corners - tape and polish. Hope this helps.

If you are in tight with some high-end car dealers, another add on worth exploring is VIN etching.
You only need a couple of dealers to use your etching service as a dealer added option to make lots of extra money.
We use a compressor powered system from Glass Technology for the several high-end car dealers buying our etching service. Our charge is $25 per vehicle (they charge between $100-200 as a dealer added option) and it takes about 5 minutes per vehicle to etch each piece of glass.
We require them to email a list of VIN numbers to us the day before our scheduled service so that we can pre make the label stencils that we use.

Re: Ad Ons
Ok Guys.... What brands are you finding that need this service and How old are the cars??? Ive seen the repair product, Just not noticed any cars that need this service. What is material cost per car??? The Vin etching is a Good idea too, what is Your actual cost for that service???.... Thanks to all, Have a Great weekend.
Headlight Polishing
The only materials used are the etching abrasive, label tape for stencils, and 2 interior warning labels - I would estimate the actual cost per VIN etched vehicle to be less than $1.00.

Re: VIN Etching Cost
ChipDr,
I went to Glass Tech website. Didn't see anything on the vin etching service. What does a machine cost to get started with vin etching.
Anybody else who knows where I can get one of these?
Thanks

Cracker,
GT doesn't have their complete product line on their website. Call their toll free number on Monday - 800-441-4527 (Durango, CO) and you should be able to get the info you want.
There are lots of chemical etch kits around but they don't do the job of an air-powered abrasive.
Same old story - you get what you pay for.

Re: vin etching
Thanks for the replies guys... Years ago everyone used to sandblast the VIN numbers with a Gun, the head of this gun had brass digits that slid in, a nifty idea, Now I dont see many glass repair suppliers pushing Vin etching, those that do use an acid etching cream... The old sandblasted type was more noticable and easier to read. I recently saw a TV show on Car theft, it said VIN etching is the one thing theifs Hate, Its not like an electronic device that can break, be bypassed, forgotten or switched off, and the cost to replace glass is so expensive, theyd sooner move on to the next easy target.
