Used Car Dealership Accounts

I'm in talks with a few used car dealerships. I know the managers and they're going to allow me to repair any damaged windshields that come in from their used cars. Any given time they have 300 - 400 used cars. Obviously, people will try to discount, but what is a good rate to charge for each repair for this type of account.

I've done mobile and set up at car washes (I know many of you guys don't like the car wash set up, but I make sure the quality is as high as can be, and 95% of customers are extremely happy - I'm not one of the guys giving us a bad name), but I've never had a fleet account.

How many repairs per month would you expect from a large used car lot? What are best practices / processes? Come in a couple times a week (day / evening?) to complete all repairs?

Thanks!

I check in every other week with them to give inventory a chance to turn over. Your going to find most won't let you repair all the vehicles at the same time. Make sure you list every car with a break write down the Lot# and last six numbers of the VIN#. What I do is if they call me back to do a repair on that car after I was already there I charge them the full retail rate. Make sure you explain all of this to them during your negotiations. Good luck.

The key thing with any new repeat customer is to build up a level of trust. Second hand car dealers are keen on their profit margins so I build a quantity discount into my pricing structure. At the same time, when I have checked the forecourt, I advise what needs to be repaired and what can be left. Finally, do that "something extra" for them when it occurs.

Over here or at least in this area 8 out of 10 windshields on the forecourts have been repaired badly before coming into stock.

I see right the opposite in my area....maybe 2 out 10 have been previously repaired by others.

If they are a big lot stop by once a week and walk the lot. The way to make this easier is to mark the ones you have seen. Im sure you see little dots on windshields or headlights and wondered what they are its everyone from the paint touch up to interior guys way of keeping track. Take a Sharpie put a dot on the same spot of everyone you see with or without damage. Next time you walk the lot its easy to spot the fresh inventory. 8-)

Most of any size will need you tax number and issue a 1099 at the end of the year also 80% will pay monthly and dont expect it to be on time its how the Car Buisness works I spent over 20 years on the sales side before I switched to this :D

In my area, dealers dont normally repair unless the vehicle s sold and the new buyer has a complaint. Used car dealers normally dont put any money in a vehicle unless they have to. If it doesnt sell within a few months, the vehicle goes back to the auction or traded to another lot. WSR is not high on the list for a budget vehicle of less than $5K. If you have dealers that do, you are the exception rather than the rule. I've even noticed this past year, the high end vehicle dealers dont repair unless they have a buyer unless its a cherry model.
