I don't think I understand...

Are you saying that you do not dab the pit but instead wipe over the damage with the edge of a mylar tab?

Yes! I used to dab but was always worried about drawing some resin out of the break into the towel, using the edge of the mylar like a squeegee seems to work quite well for me.
