question for Coitster
Your first question is addressed in the "Building your retail biz" thread... and the second is there too, at least between the lines, anyway.

As Coitster would tell you, don't make it more complicated than it is.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
I got to meet Coit at the MTE show last weekend and what he has is called a gift. It is not so much your sales pitch but how you carry yourself that sells. Being a good wsr tech is only the beginning in this business, you will spend more time as a salesman. To me that is the hard part, you really have to believe in what you do and also your skills and if your potential customer can see that you'r halfway up the hill
I wish I could ride with Billy Mays for a day and see how many repairs he could get for me. This guy could sell ice cubes to a friggin eskimo, not saying that you need to be like him but it wouldn't hurt. I just recently started to search the net for " service marketing " you will find a whole lot of free information there.
One thing I started to do is go into a book store when I have some free time and skim through the sales and marketing books. I have one of those small tape recorders and take notes with it, this way you save a ton on books and get an education to boot.

The tape recorder idea is good one and will try it out. I too met David Coit at the recent trade show in Orlando and he provided me a wealth of insight and knowledge into this business. I am brand new to wsr, but after talkiing with David, you cant help but be even more motivated to succeed in this business.
