I repaired a combination break(approx. 0.79 inch in diameter) on my practicing windshield. pls. take a look at the photo:



there's still a lot of skeleton exist, why it appeared like this?

Should I drill in advance to repair the combination prevent these skeleton from appearance?

No need to drill into that type of break. I see the outer ring also, usually due to too much pressure or heat, Skeletin as you call it should not be quite so visible however a crushed bullseye with fracturing of the inner cone can be difficult at times to clear out.

I prefer to work some resin into the middle before applying my bridge, if you understand how a combination works you will understand why I do this. Also there is quite a pressure ring on that repair showing that excess pressure was used on the injection cycle.

Screenman, your insight is always helpful. Would you mind expanding on your technique (I'm assuming what you mean is using a dropper to dab resin in the pit prior to the injector?) and what it is particularly about the combo that this helps? Thanks!

That is correct, just a small amount with a dropper and work it in with a sharp probe. My theory behind this is the the middle of a combination is crushed glass, as soon as we put the injector on even with very slight pressure we are compressing the glass. By using my method I manage to get resin in whilst the centre is nice and open.

I guess that you're using the UV-Dome to prevent ..... eh?
