WSR results not so great

Post by Gijoe80354 »

Hi, I am new to this forum, I have been practicing WSR for the past week I am using Liquid Resins' resin and I am not satisfied with the results perhaps I am expecting too much, but the end result on a starbreak and combination break I get what I call bee wings where you can still see the skeletion of the arms from the cracks however they are very thin no black spots but I can still see them. So my question is, is this normal? I know that when I was conducting some research there is no mention of Liquid Resins' resins passing the BSI standards, Where Magnibond and Diamond Clear have passed the BSI or so they say. I have ordered a vial of diamond clear from Glass Technologies Inc to see if that provides better results should get it next week sometime. Anyways if anyone could provide any feed back on this I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

One thing you should know, is that WSR doesn't make the glass look perfect. When you crack glass, you've put a seam in a seamless prism, causing a refraction of the light.

The resin replaces the air with a clear liquid that "restores the structural integrity of the glass."

You should have a garaunteed 80% improvement, but there will always be a small scar. I spent about an hour on a combination break, about an inch and a half long and still had a sort of clear, reflective skeleton of the damage.

It's normal, and you should know that WSR does not cosmetically perfect the chip. It strengthens the WS, and stops it from spreading. (Typically)

I as well have had some star breaks that the legs have been so tight, appearance wise, it seems as though they have not filled. I don't think you will notice any difference using another resin. It does get frustrating because you drill it, tap and connect the legs, fill it and still can't get it done. But from this forum I have come to the conclusion that it happens to all of us and that is where the communication with your customer is critical, explaining to them, from certain angles, you may still see imperfections, but yet, you are there to keep the windshield from breaking out on them.

Would it be great if we could have some pictures up. I would say if a leg does not appear to have been filled then it has not been filled, learn to see the difference between the two. This question to the OP, have you received training and been shown how a certain repairs look when finished?

I have found the because of the slight refraction difference between uncured and cure resin that not curing properly can make a difference to overall cosmetic appearance. Make sure you change your bulb regularly and that you give the light enough time to do its job properly.
