Saw a thread about placing clear packing tape over chip prior to repair then drilling/injecting/curing and removing for a final pit polish. Haven't tried for myself but, I can't see the benefit by doing this. Anyone?... anyone?....

I know for me, I would not do it. Just trying to get the glue/adhesive off would be a PIA.....

I'm not sure the glue /adhesive removal would be an issue but what would be the purpose of the tape?

The purpose of that clear piece of tape was most likely to function as an ''anti-scratch'' and ''center point'' (as an aid) for drilling.
Whatever it is, there's no need to do that. I advice you to simply forget about it.

I have had several customers put Duck Brand packing tape over cracks. The sun will melt the adhesive into the damage.

Duct tape will repair anything but a W/S chip.
