Hi all. I was wondering what type of stool, ladder or ?? you all use to reach up to the top of those huge Class A rv windshields? Some of those suckers must be 10' high! Personally, I am looking at the Little Giant articulating ladder which will also act as a scaffold. The scaffold is adjustable up to 6 feet high (depending on the ladder model). These ladders however are quite expensive.

We have used this step stool when performing windshield repairs on SUV's and RV's.

Kory, did this little step work well on reaching the top of a bus or rv window?

It worked well for me but keep in mind I am 6 feet tall.

Save your money and just buy a 2' like Korey's for 99.9% of your repairs.
After 20 years of RV repairs, I have NEVER had a customer or dealer who didn't have their own ladder.

I should add I am mobile only. If I had a shop I'd buy an 8-10' step ladder.

Thanks Kory. Being a mobile type service (no shop) I would kind of like to be equiped to handle the tal ones. As I am only 5'9", I think I wil buy something a bit taller. In a pinch I might ask to borrow a ladder, but I really would rather arrive at a dealer ready to go.

What size and type of ladders are you guys using when repairing Semi-Tractors? I am asking because, I know it is very easy to loose your footing, if a repair is in the middle, high point of a windshield ( I am aware of the centering tool). Owner operator's of tractors can get very upset if you place a scratch on their truck. Furthermore, do you charge more too repair Semi-Tractors?

Note: I've worked in the trucking field for many years as a Manager. I have never had, not a single person, approach me about windshield repair. Had they, I would have gladly agreed to work out an agreement for repair. After all, most companies in the field of trucking, base bonuses off of your overall operating cost. Replacements can kill you O.R. ( operating cost). Most companies have always tried to offer me services such as landscaping, and oil changes but never windshield repair.

I concentrate on RV work and use the Little Giant ladder. I like it because it's heavy and stable with little chance that the wind will blow it over. I also have a step stool like Korey suggested, but the ladder work well when the damage is high on the windshield... and it easily fits in my car.

RE the above? I use a 6ft plastic ladder(bought from Sears) with a metal plate on top of the ladder, so I can rest my equipent on top of the ladder?? for RV and Coaches/Buses -- Re trucks you can use a 6ft ladder and work off the hood of the truck or open the hood of the truck up and and use a 3 or4 ft ladder placing the ladder betweem the wheel and the engine to get at the windshield ?? carrying -the ladder buy some roof racks for your vehicle
