Air bubble in the repair
Re: Air bubble in the repair
Verbal attack? LOL Gee, screenman, I apologize for attacking you!
Re: Air bubble in the repair
Gedis, it is not me that feels ignored. That would be screenman.
You are correct in not driiling unless you have to.

Screenman your post about not drilling straight into the glass may help me, I had never thought of that LOL but it makes sense to allow the resin to flow down into the hole. I vary rarely drill but when I do there always seems to be an issue of bubble or just cloudy looking.

Truce! I've been getting a lot of good tips here just in the short time I've been coming, screenman, splitpea, many others. So keep it up, it's all good. Even what goes against my grain is worthy of thought or trying out. For instance I would either never or hardly ever pop a bullseye, but have found that to be just the thing in certain situations thanks to a few here who advocated it. And a needle into the pit to draw the air out/get the pit resin to flow down was new to me. Thanks to all you guys (and gals) for the good info.

I poped three bulls this morning, it was nessesary to put a cleat in the end of a crack for termination purposes. The cracks filled nicely and I was off to my next appt in an hour and a half.:eusa_clap
My best mentor one said " be fair with your priceing but never too low, be honest with your customer/competition, when the day is done be sure you have done "good works", and always leave something of value on the barganing table!!

Hey Screenman is it now you Splitpit is getting on to, in the past it was me , but we have barried our weapons and have been supporting each other from there on. Birds of the same feather, flock together is a good saying in this situation , wright ?splitpit;26609 wrote:Verbal attack? LOL Gee, screenman, I apologize for attacking you!

OK, maybe I missed something here? How does an air bubble in pit translate into size and stature of any particular tech working it? Size really doesn't matter much in this biz but very outgoing personalities do!
Just another tip that some of you have used before but may have not mentioned!
When I see a pit bubble forming, I'll simply shift my curing tab (mylar) to pull the air out. It's accomplished by applying light pressure to tab and moving it 1/8 to 1/4 inch with your index finger. Works for me 99% of the time. Has to be 100% protected from UV to be effective.
Try it sometime!

Re: Air bubble in the repair
I moved a bunch of the posts in this thread to the water cooler. Most had nothing to do with an air bubble in the pit, or windshield repair at all for that matter.
One however was repair related and although covered in the past I think, a good question. See the Milky Repair thread.

Re: Air bubble in the repair
I have had the same problem, exactly the same problem. I use delta kits. I think I have a solution. Now I have tried everything posted above, even stuff that wasn't posted. My practice windshield has about 100 repairs in it, all have bubbles. The bubbles are not present until a minute or so into curing. Now this problem started for me a few weeks ago. But I don't want chips running around town with my name on them with bubbles. So I did a test, I wanted to test the quality of my resin. But what I found was not the resin. I want you to take your practice glass and just drill a hole no chip just a hole, count to 10. Now 4 inches away drill another hole same count, no chips just a clean piece of glass. Put resin and apply curing tab you normally use. No bubble before light, its easy to see. I was using the hard plastic tabs. When I did this test I still had a bubble show up about 1 minute into curing. Its weird all I did was a make a 10sec drill hole. They were small but visible when you put a white piece of paper behind. With your other hole you drilled same thing but use the softer curing tab that resemble Cellophane like from a pack of smokes (I don't Smoke). No bubble!!! Voilà now do 2 practice chips same everything, same technique, timing everything. Everything you would normally do. The chips will be different but keep your technique the same. Apply the hard plastic tab on one and the flimsier cellophane on the other. That fixed my Problem and if you think about it, it makes sense. I was reusing the tabs and they kind of get scratched up over time and they even have scratches right out of the box. As the resin cures it will contract just a little bit. Even though there is no bubble or air before curing I think tiny bits get trapped in the scratches on the tab and they make there way to the pit. Do your own test change it up and let me know what happens. I hope this helps.
