The problem with car washes is the same people visit weekly. After you service all the damage (no more work) Have to spread your wings! Fleet, Dealership,Insurance and other. You sound motivated, which is great but what's next?

Please do not confuse my language of asthetically pleasing as an indication I don't do the best job possible. 21 years of repairing windshields and I feel I can go head to head with anyone on any repair, period. My point being is that when you have a break in the lower corner of the passenger side windshield and the break is the size of a silver dollar that repair will not look good but in stopping the windshield from being replaced I then in turn am saving the company money. These trucks drive 100,000 plus miles per year so when as you say the inevitable has happened there's no guarantee a new windshield will not be installed and a break in the windshield happens in the first five miles after it has been replaced so by stalling the inevitable by 6 months, one year or in some cases five years I'm saving the company money. When repairing windshields patience is a virtue and I have plenty of patience and experience.

I agree with what Starbrite says about the company in Michigan being fraudulent. It disgusts me greatly to see someone doing that, especially in the Michigan area where we are too. It is a shame, but maybe someday it will catch up with him. I believe I know exactly who you are speaking of with regards to this. I actually spoke with one of their technicians and I was horrified to hear what I did from them regarding training as well as the five minute interview process that he went through. I do know, they do not dry the repair, and that they drill ever single repair no matter what. I have actually spoken to one of the owners of a past location and I am pretty sure they were kicked out of several locations because they were badgering the customers as well as "filling" damages that did not need to be repaired. It is fraudulent and is a pathetic way of making money. As I stated in a previous post, our company continues to preach the proper methods of glass repair. We continue to educate all of our customers on what is a good repair versus a bad repair, and the process that one should follow that results in a proper repair. We continue to do well in what we do by always being honest and up front with our customers, and you know what, that I find works best. For the shameful guy that rips off the consumer, watch out cause the honest ones will prevail. :)

SeeClearly,

I did an extensive search for this owner and found out many things. He was a previously convicted criminal and imprisoned (for fraud), was a acclaimed prophet for a health ministry organization in Southfield, Mi and is now expanding his car wash repair operations in Grand Rapids, Mi, Holland, Mi, Indiana and Chicago. Ill. Why has he not been stopped? Ask our government! Something is not right with this. How he continues to operate under the radar is beyond my understanding.

Starbrite- we are discussing the same company. I am not sure why it is allowed, but it surely makes things more difficult for the industry since many people are on to him and they equate his operations with how all repair companies operate which is obviously wrong. You would be amazed at how many customers we currently have that have been screwed by the company before us. Like I have posted before, we simply educate and show our potential and current customers how proper repairs are done and how they should look. It is then up to them to decide what is best for them. I will say, we never jeoprdize a repair by skipping any steps in the process, or bad mouth any competitor. No money is worth being dishonest and misleading; and in the end, the honest guys will prevail! :)

screenman! I was told by the General Manager that they had a man that came by weekly and always seem to find repairs on the furthest end of the parking lot. After a few weeks a mechanic had to verify the breaks prior to repair. The Mechanic reported that almost all the breaks appeared to be identical. The GM suspected something so he kicked the repair guy off the property. Since that time he states that they went to almost a zero repair problem. Thats why they call me when they need a repair and the lot is off limits to me, unless called. The drivers are responsible for reporting to the Mechanics when a vehicle needs a WSR. I was informed Saturday after reading some of the post that this particular fleet has other warehouse hubs, which I knew. What I didn't know was, when they deliever supplies to one of these hubs they have a mobile Power washing company clean the trucks and they also make WSR's while the driver is picking up or dropping off a load. This is why I am not getting many calls according to a driver. The driver stated that drivers will normally wait to report the WS damage while at that particular hub. The interview I have today is for a smaller fleet that has only one warehouse, which is located here, and is locked down Friday's 11pm to 11Pm Sunday: All the vehicles are parked in the same lot: They have a mix of vehicles ranging from pickups to small panel Trucks to Tracktor Trailers size. Iam curious as to when I will have access to these vehicles, since most are on the road daily , and the place is closed during the wekend. Candyman

Candyman, I fully understand your problem we have the same with some of our customers, how about when they start to come back in in the evenings, I would likely set up a regular evening once a week or fortnight depending on the amount of work I find is happening.

GlassStarz--If I am the dude you are referring to, I cannot agree with you enough. Again, sell on what your company does well. I am one to NOT worry about what others are doing. I find opportunity in what I perceive as wrong by others. Again, this is always done with the utmost integrity. If you do not have that, you have nothing! :)

GlassStarz,

In Michigan we have a growing problem with WSR fraud in this industry. It's just not the car washes but extends itself to many parking lot operations. We all know fraud takes place in all areas of our life but when an operation as big as this gets away with it and is expanding, somebody needs to speak up and not stand down. You state, who cares...just do what your doing. Well if it effected your bottom line (or food on the table) in your area, could you honestly tell me you wouldn't have a concern or show a reaction?
Many have any idea what this company is fraudulently billing daily? I do...and it's $6000-10,000 weekly. Techs get paid $17 per repair and wipe down cars for no base pay 8 hours a day at wash. No wonder why they badger every customers for a repair. Owner always makes money....but techs always struggle for a check. These are the times
