I thought $50 here was bad

California everything is more. Gas about 75 cents a gallon more than Arizona. Sales tax 10+ % it's a expensive place to live. Flea bag apartment in a bad neighborhood 1500 want to live in the nicest weather in the country it's not cheap but you get what you pay for.

My cost to rent a car for 13 days there is about 235. another 320 was added by the rental company for local taxes and insurance. My son lives in the downtown area. His apartment was 1350 for about 650 sqft and no parking

That's not true. In San Diego you need a business license you can get around it short term with filing a DBA and working solo. But you will find that when one of the businesses you do work for gets audited you will eventually get a letter from California tax board and then it gets expensive.

San Diego county is ridiculous with licensing it's nuts. Even the strippers are required to be licensed here. And to exasperated the situation the local big competition will call and complain a city guys shows and you get a ticket. Answer is simple get the license. Get the insurance go to work.

Yea, the business tax certificate is really the "business license" for San Diego.
