If this insurance requirement becomes a law, statewide and nationwide, where do you run to then?

Consider yourselves lucky, Workers Compensation and Public Liability are compulsory in Australia. To add further insult, if you are an owner operator you cannot make a claim. That's right, you require insurance that you can't claim on.

On a positive note, the more red tape in the industry, the less chance of poor operators starting up and flooding the market. IMO.

i too have no workmans comp. never felt I needed it except for 1 dealer that I do. they require workmans copm.
so what they do is I guess put me on theirs and deduct 1.88 for each 45.00 invoice.

California, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico offer short term disability insurance to small business and self-employed. You have to take care of getting it set up, but it's good to have money coming in when you're off work.

Re the above I only had one car dealer looking for the above item ,I called the VP of the car dealer asking him if he would be interested for me sighing a waiver form, to say I will not sue his account if I fall break a bone or hurt myself. NO REPLY YET ?? . I do carry a disability Insurance on myself, anybody who has a family it is a wise Insurance to have anything could happen while working
