I do not doubt your numbers we have doe them our self, however mine are at fleet customers where they have 100+ vehicles lined up for me which I feel is easier than selling as many times a day as you have to do.
This line of yours confused me somewhat (do it at a car wash, it not only brings customers to you but also cleans the rock chip and ) Please explain.

sounds like he is doing wet repairs. I wonder what is his proper way of drying out the breaks?
Just Chippen Away

when the cars get out of the car wash i have about ten minutes for the sun and air to dry out the rock chip and or crack, for any residual moisture i can usually get it all out by useing a lighter, i like the fleet idea i have not been able to get that kinda biz that sounds effective, i have a few tow truck companies and car lots limmo companies etc. that i do fleet for but nothing like what you say, that sounds awsome, i need to land a 100+ fleet rock chips haha thats an easy 5000, what i mean about working at a car wash is that i pay rent to a car wash owner and work out of his location activly selling rock chip repair after the cars are done getting washed, this is how i can manage my volume with low overhead..

Hey jw repair
-If you don't mind my asking, what sort of deal have you been able to work out with the owner of the car wash where you are doing your repairs? I've been considering something similar. I want to offer some thing that is reasonable while keeping it realistic for me too of course.
Thanks,

cool! to make it a cheap resonable relationship i have found that it is best to do a set amount plus % of revenue in my case i have set up to pay 100$ a month plus 5% revenue, in the end it averages about 400$ a month, with one day i can pay off my entire month! also use for a promotion of your space for rent that you will actually bring in people with your services so its a win for everyone, this works out to make it so you have incentive to be there everyday hence the 100$ and the car wash has incentive to have you there hence the 5%, good luck!

10 minutes for the sun to dry out a chip and the rest with a lighter, I doubt they are completely dry. Why not chipsaver them before they go through the wash. Can I ask what is your method for drying with a lighter, please do not tell me warm the glass from the inside.

Guys: system and resin suppliers are plugging their stuff to car wash operators also.
Indeed: this includes your own supplier(s).
Why oh why would you want to be all that open about your modus operandi and revenues on a public forum -any public forum?
You are leaving so much details, before you realize it, and with a bit of bad luck, ''your'' car wash contact is going to ''invest'' in his or her own kit.
Don't think that they would not to, because suppliers are also on car wash trade shows -with their own booth- actively seeking new customers.
Indeed: any supplier discoverred the car wash locations as their next target.
All you do is promoting the services you are providing and the products you are using, you are telling your future competitor how wonderfull and profitable this trade is or can be.
And by doing so...... you are wasting your own market place, income and future.
Some may not agree, that is just fine.

i dont mind telling people, its that simple i am good friends with all the car wash owners and there are reasons why hardly any do their own repairs.. i will explain how i do it, my system works and is effective, every car wash owner i have spoke with and know has done it one time or another so its not a matter of keeping secrets its a matter of trust and mutual relations it works for me and always has thanks for the input though.

Hi Jw Repair-
I'm with you. Although there is competition out there, I think there is plenty of room for all of us (at least In Northern California there is). Also, if there is something I have stumbled on that I feel would make a positive difference in anyone's business, I would freely offer it as you have. If the owner of a car wash is smart enough to succeed in business, he/she has probably considered many add-on options for additional revenue; windshield repair included. In short, those who want to get into doing windshield repairs will do so whether a supplier contacts them or they've seen something at a trade show that peaks their interest.
That being said, if you wouldn't mind, I would still like to hear some of your ideas about how you've approached this. If you prefer not to leave the info here, feel free to email or PM me.
Thanks!
Paul

Re: insurance too much of a hassle?? dont use it!
This is one subject (repairing windshields at car washes) that I just don't understand! Why would anyone want to set up a location for repairs where the breaks are intentionally run through a car wash just prior to being repaired? It's like waiting for a rain storm to blow through so you can do the repair immediately after. Water is one of our worst enemies. Shouldn't we try to avoid it at all costs? That being said........if you are making money and doing QUALITY repairs, God bless you!
