The WD-40 is far less harmfull than the yellow -x on paint -trim.The splatter if any is wiped off with mineral spirits (second step).We have all tended to make the headlights overly complicated to do(me too at 1st!)This is the easiest and most effective way I have found yet.WD-40 will not hurt the paint or trim like the yellow -x because the main ingrediant in yellow -x is white wall cleaner which is very caustic and will etch paint and trim and must be immediatly rinsed with water.Just another step that you eliminate .If you still insist on using the yellow -x just mix 3 parts Westleys Bleach-White with one part cleaner-degreaser.(Mean Green etc.)Much cheaper and works as good and probably better for $5.00 a quart.

I have two F-150 lights that I got from a shop in good shape except for they need restoring, I will be using the D40 way on them this week. I will do one by hand and the other with the Matebo...

Do you use a stray bottle with the D40 or just a squirt bottle to apply to the sanding disc or paper and lenes.

The good part about D40 is it works good on your achy joints in your hands. That may be a good thing now. That is an old remedy for arthritis.

Just curious why?? would you ever do a lens by hand if you have the sander??Both ways will work the exact same way in the end but one will just take a lot less time.............Put the WD40 in a small spray bottle.Spray lens and sand.

wd-40 works good in a spray bottles some pumps are hard to press cause of the thickness of wd-40 but then you wont be using much cause it stays wet for a period of time.
Headlights are porous material im tring out something on a old headlight which is called stone impregnator a sealer for porous stones and cement, etc thought ill give it a try.
it makes a very clear shine and it is also used for outdoors . A fluoropolymer base stone sealer and impregnator that penetrates and seals significantly better than traditional silicone based sealers., it will protect every stone- even from the toughest staining agents. Deep penetrating protection, Effective Oil Barrier, Interior and Exterior Use, Weather resistant, Non-yellowing, Preserves natural look drying time about 10 min to touch with heat or dryer could speed up drying time.
Any thoughts on this or am i just wasting my time expermenting?

As most here know I have been in the car buisness since 83 I quit for a couple years and became a sales closer for machinery at a Janitorial supply the result is i learned way too much about TP and Floor Wax (what a waste of brain cells)
Why do I mention this? Jac the stone sealer is just a polymer based floor wax the stone and brick stuff is thinner and penetrates the pores The polymers wont bond well to non porus material and will break down with heat also prone to yellow
As a side note I had a recent discussion with Rick at Premier 2000 about the new formula Trimonex he says they have had great success with thier clear on the headlights its water based and goes on easy I wil try it this week

thanks for that information Glassstarz im not that much of a chem guy but my brother has been using that stone impregnator for long time on stones and we thought it would do some good oh well.
as you put it on it gives a nice gloss finish with no streaks or bubbles but then as it dries the fade comes back a little.
Im sure there is something out there that could be used or someone already knows what would make a almost perfect headlight sealer. the 50/50 mix does real good but a limit of wipes or ya got to do it all over again.

This is Mini from Dvelup. I have visited this forum from time to time and just seen your post. Many like to experiment with their own home remedy's and that's fine. However stating that are products are the same as the off the shelf products you mentioned is really a deception. I know that over two years of research has went into our HL products and another three in testing before going to market. If you find things that seem to work, thats your business, however please don't associate these with our products.
Our products have been designed and tested for long term results. Anyone reading this thread may believe they will have the same results including long term. If others try your remedies and find results are short lived then they will believe the results would be the same with our tried and tested products.
This would be bad business for Dvelup and associated distributors. I have personally assisted some posting in this thread and would appreciate the courtesy in return. For some additional info, I will ask a chemist to post later.

The light that I will be doing at my trials are off and in my shop. I will do them both ways just to get the feel of time and what it will take to do them. Just like when I did not have the grinder, I had to do it by hand.... some lights are small enough, to were it is not worth pulling out the grinder so hands on will do them also, so this pair will be my testers.


One Question I do have is. How does the 50 / 50 finish mix work as to the Dvelp as per staying clear? The lights on my truck are having a slight yellowing, as per my wifes is clear. I polish hers most every month to keep them up and mine is the test to see how long they take to yellow so I only polished them once ... This is with the dvelup sealer mix.
Will the Spar mix stay clear longer? and should I still promote the customer to polish them every few months.

I don't want to sound like a Dumb A@@, but I do want the best for my customers like every one else. I am not a chemical mixing type person, That is why I am asking all these Questions...

I will say my last post was started before Mini did her post. Just took longer to get in on.....

The Question is still out there. Doing my truck the Develp way as a test and I do see the difference with and without polishing them.
