New Ideas For The Forum?

Post by Delta Kits »

If you have any ideas to make this forum better, please feel free to post here. If you have specific moderator/admin complaints/comments, that's still better left for private messaging.

Types of ideas?

I think we should have a for sale forum...!

Done :)

See how that works? ;)

Brent, any chance of giving us an explanation of the various icon symbols sited to the left of the thread title, some are scrolling, some have a star inserted. Is there a glossary for the various symbols on the forum?

I can't find a glossary anywhere, and I'm still learning some of these things myself, but I have figured out a few of them.

Keyhole with an exclamation mark (!) = Sticky (A topic that a moderator wants to stay at the top of the forum)

Padlock = Locked (A forum or topic that moderators do not want to posted to)

Red Text = Contains unread posts

Red Star = Threads that you have posted to

Scrolling Text = Hot Topic (15 replies or more)

I think loosening up on the avatar restrictions would encourage users to post their own avatar to personalize themselves. (Currently the size limit is 6kB, which is very hard to do)

In my 4 years of experience in forums, typically the maximum file size is around 50-100kb

Just a thought.

I don't visit other forums very often and don't know a thing about avatars but I did a little research and found there are a lot of very creative ones, many of them animated that are 15kb or less. Apparently there are ways to significantly reduce avatar sizes while maintaining a reasonable picture quality and animation function.

I've increased the limit to 30kb to give you a bit more flexibility. That seems to be a very popular size limit that a lot of highly respectable forums are using. Larger avatar limits can cause slower page load times so everything is a balancing act.

Thanks for the input, hopefully this will help a little.

Tip:
Let's get rid of the ridiculous childish ''certified'' badges.
It adds nothing to the quality of your postings or credibility here on the board.
